Voice Media Platforms Now Available from Performance Technologies

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Performance Technologies (News - Alert), a developer of communication platforms and systems, has announced the availability of Voice Media Platforms (VMPs). This family of pre-integrated development platforms for telecommunications network equipment manufacturers.

These platforms are designed to provide a robust combination of Performance Technologies’ hardware and software for developing multimedia applications and offer time-to-market advantages through the pre-integration of all platform elements.

There are a number of interactive and multimedia applications that are driving revenue opportunities for telecommunications services. These opportunities are essential as this industry is becoming increasingly competitive and service providers are seeking additional ways to drive revenue and grow the customer base.

The VMP family was developed to provide an ideal foundation for these applications, including VoIP, audio conferencing, interactive voice response (IVR), voice and fax messaging or any application that requires bridging between PSTN and IP networks.

These new platforms are available in a number of preconfigured platforms including 4U, 7U or 12U NEBS-compliant chassis. Such a scalable approach ensures that telecom equipment manufacturers have a choice of platform and system design configurations to match their needs.

The 12U VMP option is available with the following components as standard: fourteen pre-integrated Media Blades with T1/E1/J1 network connectivity and voice processing for 10,572 G.711 ports; NexusWare; two, dual-core single board computers; 2TB RAID storage blade; redundant Ethernet switches and Intelligent Shelf Managers; IPMI enabled power supplies; and flexible wireless and wireline voice coding support.

"We're offering these new Voice Media Platforms to meet customer requests for a cost-effective approach to transition older, legacy TDM network systems to emerging VoIP technologies," said Performance Technologies' Director of Product Management Hank Heneghan, in a Monday statement.

"Applications can be developed on the VMPs to meet any need ranging from a small to large deployment. With the significant amount of pre-integration already provided, applications can be up and running in a short amount of time."

Performance Technologies can meet the needs of system architects and design engineers that need advanced, compute-intensive embedded solutions. The company understands the challenges within the industry and is working to ensure that these individuals have the tools they need to move their environments forward to more effectively compete.

By understanding the details and challenges within the telecommunications industry, Performance Technologies is positioned well to be able to develop solutions that tackle some of the core challenges these companies face when trying to compete in an intense industry.
