WSI Unveils Pre-Flight Briefing Solution on MobilesBy Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributing Editor Massachusetts-based WSI (News - Alert) Corporation, a provider of weather-driven business solutions, announced the release of its new solution for aviation, Pilotbrief Mobile. The new solution provides pilots with information on aviation weather, as well as hazardous products in an optimized format - on mobile devices.
The new Pilotbrief Mobile is an addition to the Pilotbrief system’s suite of products, which provides pre-flight briefing solutions for professional pilots.
WSI’s Pilotbrief Mobile features include: a graphical UI; does not require installation of application and is also compatible with the Internet browsers that are found on many mobile phone devices such as RIM’s BlackBerry, Treo, and Apple’s (News - Alert) iPhone; access to all important graphical and textual products found on the company’s Pilotbrief Online weather service suite; and a “snapshot” home page screen, which displays the decoded METAR and local WSI NOWrad radar imagery - for a pilot defined area.
WSI Pilotbrief Online is one in a series of proactive operations management solutions, which is offered by WSI. It transforms weather information into safer and more efficient flight and airport operations. This weather service suite is built with the company’s ProLink technology. With this application pilots can graphically combine aviation weather, airspace notifications and their actual planned route of flight into one easy-to-use interactive workspace. It also features radar summary with Echo Tops, IR and visible satellite imagery as well as international radar.
The Pilotbrief Pro Online also enables subscribed pilots to file flight plans directly to the FAA and also have access to their preferred routes and briefing preferences at any of the company’s Pilotbrief Pro kiosks, located in the FBOs throughout North America, the company says.
Paul Hathaway, director of product management, WSI Corporation, said, “With Pilotbrief Mobile we have extended the convenience and capabilities of Pilotbrief Online beyond the briefing room to the flight line. Pilots who have used Pilotbrief Pro or Pilotbrief Online to plan their flight can quickly check their route for changing weather conditions on their mobile phone while waiting for passengers to arrive.”
“WSI Pilotbrief Mobile is another product in our aviation suite that enables professional pilots to stay ahead of changing operational conditions and take positive action to reduce operational impacts,” said Mark D. Miller, VP and general manager of WSI’s aviation business, in a statement. “Whether you are a dispatcher planning flights for the day, a chief pilot at home base monitoring weather and operations, or a flight crew member on the ramp looking for a weather update, WSI provides the trusted tools for proactive operations management.”
WSI also delivers critical aviation weather information. Its Pilotbrief Online also features flight plan guidance forecasts for turbulence, convection, icing and volcanic ash.
WSI InFlight application enables pilots with real-time and on-demand graphic weather information in the cockpit, thereby improving plane safety and weather-avoidance routing in-flight. WSI will be demonstrating Pilotbrief Mobile in Booth 4476 at the National Business Aviation Association convention in Orlando, Flor., which will be held from October 6-8.
