Cutting Costs with Virtual Numbers

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

For many reason Direct Inward Dialing (DID) services are becoming a key to doing business throughout the world.

DID services provide people with access to local telephone numbers in most countries on a worldwide basis, and these numbers are forwarded by companies such as DID World Wide to PSTN (Plain Old Telephone System), VoIP or VoIM devices anywhere in the world.

The advantage for a small business, or even personal users, is the international and long distance telephone calls are made with the caller only paying local call rates. If you need to make a ca to Moscow but you live in Michigan; a Moscow DID would allow you to dial that number as a local one.

Edwin Terek, CTO at DID World Wide, says his company is concentrating on increasing coverage and quality of DID services. “It is essential that we continue to forge relationships with approved voice carriers, in order to ensure our customer’s global access to local phone numbers.”

In addition, the company is upgrading its trunking, hunt group and ring group facilities, in an effort to allow cost-effective and efficient use of DIDs and channels, as well as providing the ability for our customers to configure multiple forwarding destinations for a single DID.

Users can add telephone numbers to a single phone line so that they are no longer restricted to one telephone number per line.

Another key point for DID is while conventional telephone calls may be terminated at non-PSTN devices if desired, such as VoIP and Skype (News - Alert). DID allows people connected to the traditional PSTN network to call people connected to VoIP networks.

DID World Wide offers an extensive selection of international virtual numbers. However, we are constantly expanding our services so as to increase the number of regions supported, as well as to increase our coverage in each region.

A local DID (also called a DDI in Europe and sometimes referred to as a virtual number) may be forwarded by our infrastructure to conventional PSTN (Plain Old Telephone System) devices, Voice over IP (VoIP), SIP, H.323, IAX, Skype, MSN or Google (News - Alert) Talk anywhere in the world. The forwarding destination is selected by the customer on a per-DID basis.

The locations currently supported are shown below. Please visit this page regularly to check for coverage updates.
