Who Needs 3G?By Bob Emmerson, TMC European Editor Clippz, a company that launched a free mobile video service a couple of months ago, is attracting more than 600,000 people a month in India. Clippz offers thousands of video clips on its Web site www.clippz.com They can be previewed and downloaded to PCs and then be transfered to a mobile device in an optimized format. This process bypasses the mobile network operator, i.e. content is now downloaded over 3G.
Clippz operates globally but the Indian market has quickly emerged as the largest. "India is our single largest consumer of content", says Philip John, Founder and CEO of Clippz. "It seems like there is an insatiable demand for mobile video.”
Clippz supports more than 200 different mobile devices, including iPhones and iPods. Use of the Web site is free of charge and completely parent safe.
