In the U.S., where economic downturn continues to threaten the entire market, it can be hard for businesses to see any positive. But there is hope according to the latest CTIA ( News - Alert)-The Wireless Association study which found that wireless broadband technology is having a positive impact on the U.S. economy and particularly in states like California, Texas and Florida.
The new study, prepared by analyst Roger Entner, is a follow-up to a 2005 Ovum ( News - Alert) Report and highlights the value of wireless broadband and mobile voice services. According to the report, by 2016, the value of these services will exceed $427 billion.
The report notes that while 68.8 million U.S. enterprise users (25 percent) had mobile wireless services in 2005, 81.9 million (83 percent) will be using wireless broadband by 2016.
This increased use is also helping larger states to save on costs and is proving even more efficient than previously noted.
Productivity and efficiency gains are chief among the advantages provided by broadband wireless. CTIA President and CEO Steve Largent ( News - Alert) notes this is a clear indicator of the increasing importance of the wireless industry to economic vitality.
In Texas, businesses are forecasted to recognize annual cost savings of 7.6 billion in 2016 with the use of wireless broadband technology. In Florida, this will help increase savings from $1.7 billion in 2005 to more than $7.8 billion in 2016 and in California, from $5 billion in 2006 to more than $16 billion in 2016.
Finding the most benefit of all in wireless broadband technology; according to the reports findings are the healthcare sector and small businesses with productivity in the U.S. healthcare industry expected to triple from $6.9 billion in 2005 to $27.2 billion in 2016.
"This study provides strong evidence that the wireless industry continues to be a major player in the U.S. economy and an important driver for growth," said Largent.
"At a time when America is in the midst of an economic pinch, more and more employers are turning to wireless broadband technology to help reduce costs, increase efficiency and productivity, and stay competitive in the marketplace."
