NewStep Networks Extends Fixed-mobile Convergence with Updated Platform Release

NewStep Networks ( News - Alert), a provider of session management solutions for carriers and enterprises, recently unveiled its latest platform, CSN 3.5, designed to deliver next-generation fixed-mobile convergence features.
The platform enables enterprises and consumers to have an “any device, any place, any content” communications experience by facilitating the movement of information across all access technologies. Currently deployed and handling millions of calls per day, NewStep Networks’ platform offers a rich set of features that works with today’s technology and devices, as well as those being developed for tomorrow.
“The idea behind Unified Communications ( News - Alert) (UC) is to give people flexibility in when, where and how they communicate,” Infonetics analyst Matthias Machowinski, in a statement. “By embedding communications in business processes and leveraging things like presence, enterprises can significantly improve their agility and responsiveness.”
The 3.5 release focuses on delivering a better enterprise experience through introduction of advanced presence capabilities, and integration with enterprise applications, including Microsoft’s ( News - Alert) Office Communication Server 2007.
Among the benefits included for enterprise users are a broadened range of IP PBX ( News - Alert) support, enhanced enterprise seamless roaming client for Windows Mobile 6 devices, and support for SIP presence integration.
CSN 3.5 also introduces flexible user configurations for users to develop ringing profiles, including options for sequential ringing, simultaneous ring, and staggered ringing. Moreover it allows for time-of-day/day-of-week call routing , which provides the user with more flexibility and control over when and where they can be reached, as well as the creation of profiles for network selection of voice and data call delivery.
“Fixed-mobile convergence is more than just extending mobility to the enterprise workforce,” explained Shannon Bell, vice president of product management for NewStep, in a statement. Bell continued: “Enterprises need solutions that improve productivity and cut costs, while giving employees the option of making real-time communications choices based on convenience and quality. NewStep’s solutions provide the necessary tools to enable enterprises to improve efficiency and make further progress into full adoption of integrated, unified communications.”
