Tektronix Beefs Up Spectra2 VoIP Test Solution With New IMS, SIP, and Video Features
By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Associate Editor
VoIP test solutions company Tektronix ( News - Alert) announced Tuesday the latest release of its Spectra2 product. Spectra2 5.2 provides a complete diagnostic test solution for network operators developing platforms and services for VoIP, IP Multimedia Subsystem ( News - Alert) (IMS ) and converged network environments.
This latest release of Spectra2 is part of Tektronix’s IMS initiatives. The company worked hard to ensure that the enhanced product offers a single box IMS test and generation solution that operates at the protocol depth for core IMS testing.
Also new with Spectra2 5.2 is a SIP dynamic parameter management feature, which positions the product as a testing platform for VoIP and IMS environments. The product delivers improved testing capabilities for converged networks, including the ablity to monitor and generate ISDN , and to perform multi-protocol call tracing and failed call
analysis. Further, release 5.2 of Spectra2 extends testing features to video.
“With the migration to next generation IP networks, service quality and reliability is even more essential,” emphasized Richard Kenedi, senior director of network diagnostics at Tektronix, in a statement. “Tektronix enables network operators and equipment manufacturers to handle service and conformance challenges head on by enhancing Spectra2 with important capabilities for comprehensive testing across complex, advanced networks.”
Kenedi continued: “We have evolved Spectra2 around several core objectives that are essential to our customers, including increasing productivity, ensuring protocol and elemental test coverage for quality and managing network complexity through an easy-to-use, cost-effective solution.”
While release 5.2 of Spectra2 is more powerful than ever, it’s still delivered in a easy-to-use format. The underlying platform remains in place, onto which have been added IMS, converged network, media over IP and productivity enhancements, along with new SIP parameter control capabilities. Tektronix clients can choose to upgrade their existing Spectra2 platform without having to purchase a different, incompatible hardware platform.
The new tools now available with Spectra2 are summarized below.
- IMS Test Suite—coverage for core IMS testing
- SIP Dynamic Parameter Management—enhanced to include dynamic parameter management
- Multi-protocol Call Tracing—provides increased workforce productivity through the addition of analysis and filtering tools
- Failed Call Analysis—rapidly identifies failure scenarios that occur during long-term
traffic runs
- Video Telephony—extends voice testing to video
- ISDN (Monitor/Generator)—provides the ability to monitor and generate
ISDN traffic both with and without media
