Jinan Intros WiFi VoIP for Cellular Devices

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

VoIP service provider Jinan announced on Wednesday it will introduce a new service that will allow cellular subscribers to make calls using VoIP via any available WiFi network.

"Our WiFi (News - Alert)/VoIP cell phone supports dual SIM cards," said Li Kunwu, president and CEO of China VoIP & Digital Telecom, Jinan's parent company. "One is for the VoIP number, the other is for the common GSM/CDMA cell phone network."

The service will feature Jinan's proprietary NP Soft Switch IP telephone system. Jinan will first make the service available to select enterprises and government organizations this April in the Shandong Province. The company plans to roll out the service to other areas in China as WiFi networks expand throughout the country.

Kunwu pointed out potential savings in cellular roaming fees for subscribers, in addition to up to "80 percent on their long distance call fees while enjoying the same mobility and portability convenience of regular cell phones."

"We want every Jinan Yinquan VoIP subscriber to understand that we will continually be adding new state-of-the-art products and services," said Li. "Once someone becomes a subscriber, they will never need to seek out another telephone provider. Jinan Yinquan will be their one stop for all of their telecom needs, whether for business or personal use."

Jinan made news yesterday when it announced that it inked an exclusive distribution agreement with Lanyu, a Chinese distributor of IBM (News - Alert) products, to integrate IBM's Medium and Small Size Enterprise Management Service Package (IBM MSEMSP) in the Asian country.

IBM's MSEMSP is a client relations management software system for the use of medium and small businesses.

Jinan will begin distributing IBM's MSEMSP in the Shandong Province. The company's service area is currently comprised of 19 cities with Shandong Province as its primary base of operations. Jinan reportedly has plans to expand its service area throughout China in the near future.
