MobileSphere Launches MobileU to Provide the University Campus with Next-Gen Services
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
MobileSphere, a provider of global communications solutions, announced today the launch of MobileU. This new solution will provide of multitude of next-generation communications services for college and university students, faculty and staff in one complete, cost-effective package.
MobileU is positioned as being highly cost-effective in its communications services, including domestic and international long distance from a residence hall and international long distance from any cell phone, prepaid mobile phone service, free domestic text messaging, international text messaging and more.
MobileSphere is hoping to appeal to university administrators with MobileU as the service is designed to eliminate the need to conduct the time-consuming process of securing new business partners as technologies continue to emerge in student communications services. An advantage to MobileU is the ability for the university to put a direct link from their Web site or to be hosted on the Web site and fully-integrated with other student service offerings.
Mark Allen, director of marketing at MobileSphere noted that the introduction of VoIP, wireless telephony, Wi-Fi, broadband and numerous other technologies has made it difficult for administrators to adapt and integrate these technologies on campus. By mobilizing universities across the country, MobileSphere aims to solve that problem by providing all communications services in a complete package.
Allen went on to add that by effectively implementing new technologies, MobileSphere provides revenue-enhancing and cost reduction solutions to the myriad of student and administrative communications challenges that institutions today face.
Working with over twenty major university partners across the nation to provide its portfolio of communication services, MobileSphere is reaching over 450,000 students at both large public institutions and small private colleges.
MobileU’s complete portfolio includes: CellularLD that enables international dialing from any cell phone at significantly reduced rates; UTalk which provides for competitive residential long distance and international calling through pre-paid calls from a residence hall, office, cell phone or any off-campus phone throughout the continental United States; Prepaid Mobile offers prepaid mobile service, phones and SIM cards; PeakAir allows individuals to be reached on-campus using a single, virtual number through a find-me, follow-me service that can be managed online and does not use valuable cellular peak airtime; Joopz, a SMS solution that enables students to send free text messages from a PC to a mobile phone and back.
Michael A. Brzezinski, Ed.D., Director International Students and Scholars at Purdue University noted that Purdue has successfully partnered with MobileSphere for over a year and student customers have benefited from reliable, high quality, efficient service and competitive international rates.
Brzezinski added that he would highly recommend MobileSphere to U.S. colleges and universities looking for a long distance calling option for their students.
One thing that MobileSphere does not highlight in its product descriptions is the appeal that MobileU can have to parents. While many students are anxious to leave home and experience the new college world, many parents are not quite ready for their student’s newfound independence. The ability to keep in touch more easily and at a lower cost can be very beneficial for both parents and students alike.
Providing this service in an easy to integrate and manage platform is also essential to the success of MobileU. Many universities and colleges do not have the time to investigate and track the latest telephony technologies available and any potential cost savings can be eaten up by lengthy research. By providing a complete package, MobileSphere is enabling these institutions to focus their resources on providing an education.
