Global Crossing Intros Converged IP Nets App Performance Management
By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Global Crossing just introduced the Application Performance Management (APM) service as the latest addition to the company's fully managed, converged IP suite of services. APM adds real-time performance monitoring, troubleshooting and one-second increment data gathering at every site throughout a converged IP net.
The company joined forces with Fluke Networks for this project. Global Crossing will integrate Fluke's Visual UpTime Select system. APM provides network managers with the ability to identify performance issues and determine if they are application-specific or network-based. This helps them to resolve problems quicker.
"The convergence of data, voice and video onto a single IP-based platform yields simplicity in network design and reductions in total network operating expense," said Anthony Christie, Global Crossing's chief marketing officer. "Converging latency-intolerant VoIP and video applications with other high-bandwidth applications mandates the end-to-end, real-time network monitoring and managing capability that our new managed solution delivers."
Global Crossing's APM services enable enterprises to securely manage the performance of any application including the company's VoIP Services and its IP Video across their converged IP nets.
According to the company's news release, "network and applications performance issues, and the resulting knowledge will enable them to correct many such issues themselves. Resolution times on submitted trouble tickets are expedited since the Global Crossing's Network Operations Center (NOC) shares an identical view of performance issues.
"We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with Global Crossing and its customers to optimize network and application performance across the enterprise," said Mark Skurla, executive vice president of worldwide sales for Fluke Networks' Visual Networks division. "As organizations increasingly rely on networked applications, they will look to leading service providers such as Global Crossing and its new Applications Performance Management Services to help them maximize application and network uptime."
Global Crossing Applications Performance Management Services are currently available worldwide as part of the Global Crossing Managed Solutions portfolio. The portfolio is comprised of Global Crossing Ma naged Network Services, Global Crossing Managed Security Services, Global Crossing Managed VoIP Services and Global Crossing Managed Video Services.
Global Crossing launched its Fast-Track suite of IP-based of converged IP serviced back in October of 2004. The suite features IP VPN, Dedicated Internet Access, ATM/FR and private line, network services with two go-to-market options including Global Crossing Signature Services and Global Crossing Alliance Services. Signature Services allow service providers to market these network services under their own brand to their customers, while Alliance Services enable service providers to co-brand the network services with Global Crossing.
"Telstra has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Global Crossing in the U.S. and Latin America, and we look forward to expanding that relationship to other regions of the world," said Andrew Morawski, Telstra Incorporated's senior vice president, sales and marketing. "Our success depends on providing customers with seamless, end-to-end services, and this partnership highlights our ongoing focus on serving customers effectively and transparently, anywhere they do business."
