Ingate Intros Firewall 1900 and SIParator 90

Developer of firewall technology for SIP-based products Ingate Systems introduced on Monday the Ingate Firewall 1900 and Ingate SIParator 90. The company is known for its security products that enable enterprises to solve the problem of letting SIP traverse their firewalls. Today's release is a follow-up to the company's Firewall 1600 and SIParator 60 release back in December. The company had developed both products to measure only 1 U high, a feature that made the Firewall 1600 and SIParator 60 fit easily into an ever-more-crowded network operations center.

Ingate's Firewall 1900 and SIParator 90 are a good option for large corporations wanting complete support for IP communications based on SIP, including VoIP, IM and video applications. They solve the Network Address Translation (NAT) traversal issues inherent in SIP communications, and allow for both far and near-end NAT traversal to extend the SIP capabilities within the corporate network to remote workers.

According to Wikipedia, "To the extent that NAT depends on a machine on the local network to initiate any connection to hosts on the other side of the router, it prevents malicious activity initiated by outside hosts from reaching those local hosts. This can enhance the reliability of local systems by stopping worms and enhance privacy by discouraging scans. Many NAT-enabled firewalls use this as the core of the protection they provide."

Both products feature Ingate's SIP proxy technology, which delivers control over SIP signaling, traffic and network security, creating a converged network for both data and VoIP. With Ingate products, enterprises can use VoIP and other live communications on the LAN and globally over the Internet or private IP networks.

Both the Ingate Firewall 1900 and SIParator 90 have eight interfaces. Two of these are mini Gbic that can be used for fiber optic interfaces giving greater flexibility and offer 2600 Mbit/s throughput. The new products are capable of handling 1200 concurrent VoIP calls (e.g. RTP sessions).

The 1900 and 90 include 50 SIP user licenses that can be used for the registration of SIP users on the built-in SIP registrar. Twenty-five SIP traversal licenses are also included, allowing up to 25 calls to traverse the firewall simultaneously. Additional SIP user and traversal licenses can be purchased at any time.

All Ingate Firewalls and SIParators support inspection and packet filtering with rules defined and maintained by the network security administrator utilizing the GUI. They include an encrypted VPN termination module. Ingate Firewalls support SIP and have a proxy for all standard protocols including TCP, UDP, FTP and DHCP.

"The Ingate Firewall 1900 and SIParator 90 address the capacity requirements of the largest businesses," said Olle Westerberg, chief executive officer, Ingate Systems. "Our customers need SIP-based solutions that are reliable, scalable, and secure. We've raised the bar in the industry with our security products including a full SIP proxy, which delivers an unprecedented amount of control and security for IP traffic."

Ingate also supports encrypted Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP), which provides security for live data with advanced encryption, confidentiality, message authentication, and replay protection. In addition, both the Firewall 1900 and SIParator 90 support Transport Layer Security (TLS) for secure SIP signaling. When combined with encrypted RTP, these protocols further shield users from eavesdroppers, hackers and spoofers.
