Agito Networks Debuts RoamAnywhere Mobility Router

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Agito Networks (News - Alert), Inc. announced that its next-generation version of the RoamAnywhere Mobility Router is available now. It is a powerful enterprise fixed mobile convergence (eFMC) product, specially designed for enterprises so that they can increase their mobile workforce productivity and reduce cellular costs.

Agito Networks combines Wi-Fi, cellular, IP telephony and location information, thereby enhancing accessibility and responsiveness of mobile workers. RoamAnywhere makes use of a complete set of proactive, location- and policy-based metrics and simplistic reactive metrics. This helps deliver fast and automatic, sub-100ms handover of mobile voice between WLAN and cellular networks.

It adds proactive metrics such as location- and policy-based metrics, including handset battery levels and network costs, combined into handover decisions for offering optimum mobile voice experience for users.

The RoamAnywhere release includes Secure Remote Voice, a new capability that takes care of poor cellular coverage outside the enterprise by delivering a secure voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) connection from Wi-Fi networks in homes, hotels and public hotspots.

Most other solutions send VoIP traffic unencrypted over the Internet, but RoamAnywhere clients use an application-layer SSL connection for securing VoWLAN from non-enterprise networks. Users can benefit from enhanced coverage and cellular cost savings and from increased responsiveness of enterprise PBX (News - Alert) connectivity in a simple and secure solution.

Secure Remote Voice offers support to all of Agito’s capabilities remotely like sub-100ms secure handover between Wi-Fi and cellular networks and access to corporate numbers without processing a cellular data plan as required by other solutions.

RoamAnywhere offers a “dual persona” capability. While using other solutions, users have to stop using their cellular number while using their enterprise number. Agito’s dual persona allows users to use a converged mobile experience for both personal and business communications, retaining their personal cellular number while using the business calls number. Personal calls are automatically routed over the cellular network when the user sets the device to personal mode. Agito’s solution offers a converged interface on one device for enterprise and personal dialing, contact access and voicemail access.

Bill Halpin, Sr. Network Engineer at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Ill., said, “We like the idea of users making personal calls in personal mode on the cell network, and not routing those calls through the PBX. With the Agito solution, we now have a system that does not require users to carry a pager, PDA and cell phone, by converging business and personal communications on a single device.”

This release from Agito supports several handsets and PBX of many solutions. It supports 30 different handsets running on Symbian (News - Alert) S60 Series and Windows Mobile 6 Standard and Professional operating systems. Agito’s mobility router offers native line-side support for Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft (News - Alert), Nortel and Asterisk IP-PBXs.

Other eFMC solutions necessitate enterprises to adjust their existing enterprise route plans and desk phones during deployment. However, Agito allows seamless integration into existing customer networks without any changes to the ecosystem.
