Cavalier Telephone Selects Zhone's Multi-Service Access Platform to Deliver Triple Play

By Patrick Barnard, TMCnet Assignment Editor

Cavalier Telephone and TV, one of the largest full-service competitive communications providers in the United States, has selected Zhone Technologies’ (News - Alert) multi-service access platform (MSAP) to deliver triple play.

Zhone is a global provider of advanced communications equipment and a leader in enabling VoIP, IPTV, and Ethernet over copper and fiber access lines. The company’s equipment is used by more than 600 service providers worldwide.

Zhone’s MALC is an ideal solution for service providers looking to make a gradual transition to an all-IP service delivery network. Cavalier selected the solution for the roll out of its Three On triple play service across its entire 16 state service area. The service provider, which is less than 10 years old, now has 650,000 lines.

“Cavalier requires keen responsiveness from our vendors and exceptional value that we can pass along to our customers,” said Brad Evans (News - Alert), executive chairman for Cavalier Telephone and TV, in a press release. “By delivering the full range of Three On services with a single compact system, Zhone’s platform provides both the agility and efficiency we require, so we can ensure our customers high value and fast provisioning of the industry’s most advanced services.”

With Zhone’s MALC, Cavalier will have an easy go at provisioning and managing its current and future multi-play services. The consolidated platform delivers voice, video, and data services from a single high density, compact, and cost effective MSAP architecture, which can be controlled via a single interface. This will save Cavalier time and money -- but best of all it will be able to better please its customers.

Cavalier Telephone (News - Alert) made news on TMCnet in September 2006 when it announced that it was acquiring Reston Va.-based Talk America for a total of $251 million. The acquisition grew Cavalier’s customer base by about 550,000 and led to it becoming one of the largest communications services providers in the U.S. Now Cavalier serves more than 20 metropolitan service areas, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia and suburban Washington, DC.
