VoiceNation Picks Asterisk for Next Generation Call CenterBy Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor VoiceNation , a provider of outsourced voicemail, virtual PBX (News - Alert), answering services and disaster recovery services for businesses, has announced it deployed Open Source Asterisk PBX for a telephone switching platform in their newly commenced next-generation call center.
Asterisk is free, open source software that turns an ordinary computer into a feature-rich voice communications server – making it simple to create and deploy a wide range of telephony applications and services. According to officials with VoiceNation, by integrating their proprietary solutions with Asterisk (News - Alert), they have been able to chart out new features and services not yet realized by others in the telephone answering service industry. One of those proprietary products, TASterix, is an Asterisk-based call center solution. By licensing the source to TASterix and working in concert with TASterix developers, VoiceNation said it is helping to create the ultimate answering service. Jay Reeder, founder and CEO of VoiceNation said Asterisk was chosen because of its flexibility, extensive functionality, and capacity for lowering operating costs. A recent survey by the Eastern Management (News - Alert) Group shows that Open Source PBX now accounts for 18 percent of the overall PBX market - with Asterisk being the preferred choice by many companies that opt for PBX because of the solution’s flexibility. For call center developers, its possible to create a complete unified communication system using this software and add new life to existing call center solutions through the addition of features like remote IP agent capabilities, advanced skills-based routing, predictive and bulk dialing, and more. VoiceNation added that by making full use of open source solutions, they have been able to bring down the costs for their customers especially since customization can be carried out without charging clients high fees or turning away new accounts.
