TeleTech to Hire Up to 500 Temp Agents in Niagara Falls, NY

By Brendan B. Read, Senior Contributing Editor

The water is not the only substance that is flowing in abundance through Niagara Falls, N.Y. There are 500 temporary part-time/full-time contact center positions at TeleTech’s contact center that are waiting to be snagged by qualified applicants. They are invited to attend a job fair Tuesday, May 5 to Thursday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at TeleTech’s center.

New employees will provide inbound customer support from May until mid-June.  The company will provide inbound customer support and is not hiring for telemarketing or sales-related services at this location.

Paid (News - Alert) training will be provided for these new positions starting as early as today. Rates for this work are starting at $16.38 per hour. Shifts are available at various start times with varying shift lengths, seven days per week. Due to the project requirements, employees will need to be available to work June 11 and 12. Potential candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, strong computer skills, and customer service experience.

The temporary hires are a much-needed rush of human energy for the economically beleaguered Buffalo-Niagara region. The TeleTech decision to have that project handled there demonstrates the availability of high quality and willing workforce that the area has to offer.

Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, the area’s economic development agency points to a workforce that is dialect-neutral and to an advanced voice/data infrastructure with more than 106,000 miles of fiber optic cable installed. Over 50 companies, with more than 16,000 employees, have located their back office operations the region, which have created a trained and eager contact center labor pool and culture. Site selectors have said the Buffalo Niagara region is especially suitable for collections and sales thanks to a business-oriented culture. Yet the region’s large labor pool: over 584,000 people and unfortunately high unemployment at over 9.5 percent mean that it is in little danger of being saturated.

TeleTech for its part supports more than 250 business process outsourcing programs serving approximately 100 global clients in the automotive, communications and media, financial services, government, healthcare, retail, technology and travel and leisure industries. Its integrated global solutions are provided by approximately 55,000 employees utilizing 39,900 workstations across 83 delivery centers in 17 countries.

Though the positions are temporary, the ongoing economic slowdown may prompt more firms to outsource, which, if this work heads TeleTech’s way could mean more and even permanent opportunities in the future. That would be win-win for TeleTech, employees, and the region.

“We are excited to announce the new opportunities we are offering to the Niagara Falls area,” says Jane Gonter, TeleTech’s site director. “With the downturn in the global economy we are fortunate the growth in our business is allowing us to expand.”
