NEC sees robust growth due to call centers
(Philippine Daily Inquirer Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) TECHNOLOGY FIRM NEC PHILIPpines Inc. expects a double-digit growth this year as it rides on the call center boom with an array of products geared for next-generation systems.
NEC Philippines, which has nine sub-units operating across the nation, is the local subsidiary of Japans NEC Corp.
It is engaged in technology, circuits design and solutions, electronics, avionics, logistics and telecommunications software.
NEC executive vice president Leonardo H. Santos said NEC Philippines was also expanding its markets to include the fields of manufacturing, utilities and financial services.
It also plans to go to Visayas and Mindanao.
Santos said these moves jived with NECs new global strategy of trumping up on its track record in the development of pioneering and innovative products and services.
After providing for mainly telecommunications solutions in the past 10 years, we would now offer new products and services that cater to the needs of the next-generation networks, he said.
We can provide handsets, mobile computing solutions, as well as other solutions that enable people to do things for their business, government services and entertainment and living, he said.
Santos said the firms new offerings would include servers, solutions for wireless local area network hardware and contact centers solutions and Internet protocol, as well as civilian biometric-based identification systems.
Also, he explained that NECs biometric technologydubbed the automated fingerprint identification systemwas expected not only to make easier government and private sector transactions but also to move criminal detection into a higher plane with mobile terminals used for validating the identities of criminals.
Santos said that with this technology, NEC Philippines was exploring the possibility of participating in the governments plans to use biometrics-based identification of citizens including the passport, although things were still in the conceptual stage.
The official added that NEC Philippines was set to be more active in integrating the features of its solutions into convergent information and communication technology products through partnerships with other solutions providers.
