Altec Lansing Introduces InMotion Classic for IPhoneBy David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor Altec Lansing, a division of Plantronics (News - Alert), has reportedly introduced the newest member of its inMotion family, the inMotion Classic (iMT620), which works with iPhones, as well as iPods and includes an FM radio tuner.
Does anybody listen to FM radio anymore? Really? Huh.
Based on the iM600 portable iPod speaker system, the inMotion Classic is "engineered for portability and versatility" as it folds to the size of a small book, company officials say, adding that its handle can "swing up for grab-and-go transport, swing back as a kickstand and swing under to stow away and turn off the battery."
"Mobility is becoming more and more important," Ed Benforado, product category director for Altec Lansing (News - Alert), said in a statement, adding that "consumers told us they don't want to drain their batteries during travel, they don't want to lose their remote and they want an easy way to carry the dock." As a result, he said, the product has "automatic shutoff in pack mode, a built-in remote control cubby and a three-position handle."
"Works with iPhone (News - Alert)" certification, Altec officials said, means "interference-free listening, eliminating the need to switch the iPhone to airplane mode." It automatically pauses the music when you get a call on your iPhone. Last month TMCnet reported that Altec Lansing introduced the MIX (iMT800) digital boombox for iPhone and iPod, featuring a "retro audio rack-style design and a powerful built-in subwoofer to thump big bass from the heart of your scene." Compatible with both iPhone and iPod, the MIX also includes two top-mounted auxiliary inputs plus onboard FM radio and a seven-band graphic equalizer. Its "towering volume, perfect clarity and heavyweight bass make the new MIX the ultimate sound system for any party," company officials said at the time..
