CES: GPS Soon to Integrated with Field Computers and Smartphones

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

CES Technologies Corp., a dealer in manufacturing, integration and implementation of intelligent fleet management solutions, has predicted that GPS will soon be tightly integrated with field computers and smartphones, enabling them to serve as a delivery mechanism for location tracking, job dispatch and vehicle diagnostics data being transported to the fleet manager or dispatcher.

“The lonesome, covert GPS tracking ‘black box’ installed in the vehicle will become a Bluetooth or WiFi (News - Alert) enabled ‘telematics’ box communicating vehicle diagnostics and engine maintenance to the office, using the driver’s smartphone or wireless enabled field computer as the transportation mechanism,” said Pat Lohan, vice president of sales and marketing for CES (News - Alert), in a statement. “It is entirely possible that by 2013 this telematics box will be a standard feature on all new commercial vehicles purchased.”

The company has developed mobi, a GPS tracking and fleet management software module for Windows devices. Mobi converts an existing or new computer device into an intelligent GPS location tracking, job/text dispatch and status vehicle tracking work tool. CES also recently unveiled mobi911 software package to take advantage of the growth of GPS, fleet management and vehicle telematics solutions.

Mobi911 operates on Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 and is a full-featured version compatible with FleetLinc and POWER-trak Professional PC/Desktop/Server GPS Tracking, Security and Management Software. In addition it is compatible with Wifi and with the CES Fleet-Control API to integrate the solution to non-CES software systems. The solution removes the need to deploy a separate GPS device in a vehicle and also for a second expensive cellular airtime plan which will save thousands of dollars each year.

The company is also planning to make this mobi911 solution to be compatible with iPhone (News - Alert), Android and Blackberry smartphones. Mobi911 can also be fully integrated with third-party software systems, including public safety, 911, transportation and service-specific software packages using the CES Application Programming Interface.
