Legiant IVR Delivers Enhanced Controls for Mobile Employees

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Legiant, a provider of time and attendance software solutions, has announced the success of their hosted interactive voice response (IVR) technology. IVR from Legiant allows the mobile workforce access to the functionality of a traditional time and attendance clock without the restriction of a set location.

This flexibility allows an employee to use a telephone to perform all of the typical functions they would do, including clocking in and out, transferring departments or jobs, recording hours or absences, or leaving data to report all of their information directly into the Legiant Timecard system.

DPT Laboratories implemented the Legiant hosted IVR solution and then experienced significant cost savings. The company also enjoyed an impressive reduction in employee absenteeism.

Legiant announced earlier that DPT identified a minimum of $30,000 in annual savings as a result of improved accuracy and reduced time spent calculating and handling timecards. In addition, employee absenteeism was but by more than half, from 19 percent down to only 9 percent.

"With a monthly cost of $1.50 per employee, we have found that the hosted IVR technology is an extremely cost effective solution for our customers with mobile employees," said Rod Crane, CTO of Legiant. "The IVR system from Legiant is easy to setup and use without compromising accuracy or functionality."

Reliability is an important aspect with employees clocking in and actually being where they are supposed to be. The Legiant IVR solution addresses this issue by implementing several methods to ensure employees are actually following the rules.

When an employee calls in, they are prompted to enter their ID Number and their Personal Identification Number. These numbers are then validated against the employee database to confirm the employee’s identity.

When Caller ID is deployed, the company can verify the caller’s location. Such tools are essential for those customers that require a certain level of confidence. For those with even more stringent requirements, a GPS version is available that tracks the real-time location of the employee and provides a map showing the location, travel, speed and history of each user.

While this solution has numerous applications within multiple industries, companies do have to be careful with their Big Brother approach to their employees. While those lower level, hourly employees may expect such controls to be in place, salaried professionals, such as salespeople often resent these systems. For optimal benefit, the company must decide where it will benefit and where it will hinder productivity and accountability.
