AdaptivCool Announces New HotSpotr HT-710 ToolBy Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor AdaptivCool, the data center thermal management division of Degree Controls (DegreeC), reportedly has enhanced its overhead data center hot spot elimination tool. Housed in a lightweight aluminum casing, the new HotSpotr HT-710 provides more than 1300 CFM. The tool is outfitted with a single motor, a high-performance backward-curved blower and is controlled by an intelligent Thermostatic Controller.
AdaptivCool has added a number of features in the HotSpotr HT-710 including an overhead air mover that facilitates the movement of cold air to cold aisles or return hot air to CRAC. The tool is thermostatically controlled to maintain duct air temperature and has continuously variable fan speed. In addition, the tool has a dual emergency shutdown feature and is pre-wired for Room Scale Intelligent Cooling. The officials explain that the new HT-710 can operate in two modes: in stand-alone mode and in the networked mode. The tool’s fan speed is varied in response to a local temperature reading, in the stand- alone mode. In the networked mode, a number of HT-710s, HT-510s and sensors are networked to a central controller. All these monitor the temperature profile of the entire data center and also actively manage the airflow distribution to match the heat distribution in the room. AdaptivCool's Engineering Manager, Coy Stine noted this release to be their most powerful HotSpotr yet. As the HT-710 can move cold air to the cold aisles and exhaust hot air back to the Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC), it virtually eliminates equipment failure due to overheating. Stine indicated that this capability increases computer uptime and reduces the need to spend money on additional CRACs. AdaptivCool also offers a line of under-floor data center hot spot elimination tools. The company believes that their HotSpotr line will give the much needed uptime and equipment longevity to the data center managers.
