NEC America, Mockingbird Networks Join Forces To
Develop Network Management System
NEC America and Mockingbird
Networks announced they have jointly developed a carrier-class Network
Management System (NMS) that allows a service provider to provision and
monitor all Mockingbird elements in the voice over IP (VoIP) network from
a centralized workstation.
In developing the NMS, NECs network management team used the
low-level application interface of Mockingbirds Impresaria Management
and Provisioning (MAP) software to integrate it with NECs Broadband
Network Management System (BNMS). BNMS is used to manage NECs
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network.
NECs BNMS is relied on by many of the nations largest carriers
to manage their worldwide ATM networks. We have taken our proven and
reliable NMS and moved it to the burgeoning VoIP environment, said Dave
Broecker, NEC America marketing vice president. Broecker continued to
say, By taking a leading role in the IP Management Team in the
TeleManagement Forum, NEC is helping define the standards for next
generation OSS. With Mockingbirds VoIP switches, we have taken the
first step in defining the IP network management segment.
According to Mockingbird president and CEO Craig Forney, This is
just one more step demonstrating the commitment NEC and Mockingbird made
in June to deliver an integrated solution for voice services across
photonic IP networks. Forney continued, The speed with which NECs
network management team designed and implemented this new network
management system validates Mockingbirds decision to partner with NEC
in delivering a joint VoIP solution.
Running on a Sun UltraSPARC II workstation, the NMS allows the user to
configure all Mockingbird Nuvo200 and NuvoStream voice applications
switches in the network using a series of pull-down menus. From the
workstation, the user can also monitor the performance of real-time
applications running across the VoIP network through the Mockingbird
Networks devices. The NMS also provides the user with a flexible means of
retrieving Call Detailed Records (CDRs).
The NEC and Mockingbird joint marketing agreement, which allows
Mockingbird to utilize NECs broad sales channel presence, utilizes the
NEC router and DWDM products for the core IP network, with Mockingbirds
NuvoStream integrated VoIP application switches providing the edge device
support.
