Jaxtr (News - Alert) (www.jaxtr.com), a social communications company that connects users’ phones to the Web, has announced a 10-fold growth since July, according to a press release. The site has increased its membership from 500,000 to 5 million during this period. The growth also makes it the fastest growing Internet communications service to date. Jaxtr has left even Skype (News - Alert), Hotmail and ICQ behind.

"The new wave of VoIP services allow users to enjoy the benefits and simplicity of placing phone calls through their existing phones - by selecting a name from the contact list and hitting the green 'send' button," Rebecca Swensen, research analyst, VoIP Services for IDC (News - Alert), was quoted as saying in the report. "Jaxtr has demonstrated that ease-of-use is a critical factor to bringing VoIP into the mainstream. Mobile VoIP calls no longer require a PC or an Internet connection."

Leveraging the rapid adoption of VoIP, Jaxtr has been able to offer users a communication service that surpasses the boundaries of cost-effectiveness. Through the site, users can make and receive phone calls in 220 countries. The service not only offers them international calls at unbelievable rates, but also higher control over incoming calls through their regular landline or mobile phone.

Jaxtr attributes its growth to a pure word-of-mouth marketing strategy. Moreover, the exceptional growth has been realized because both the caller and the recipient of the call reap the benefits of its innovative communication service. Jaxtr has never relied on advertising or any sort of distribution deals to promote its service.

After users register on Jaxtr, they receive a link through which they can call their friends with the help of their regular mobile or landline phone. People at the receiving end need to click on the link and enter their number. When both phones ring, Jaxtr connects the call. The local number provided by Jaxtr can then be saved by the caller and later use it to call people located anywhere in the world.

Jaxtr’s service is unique due to the fact that users need not download any application to the phone. Moreover, there is no need for a phone with Wi-Fi access or an Internet plan. All callers need to do is use the calling card to make international calls to anybody in the world through their phone.

In addition to this, members can link all their phones to the account and then select the phone they wish to receive the call on. They can also choose which callers they wish to route to a digital voicemail created by jaxtr for users’ phones.

The tremendous growth will help the company expand its service and scale up its systems. To meet these increasing needs, the company has added Taneli Otala as VP of engineering. Otala was earlier the VP of technology at Various and CTO at MySQL.
