ADTRAN WLAN Solutions Add Communications Value

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

With the growing demand for mobile broadband solutions, the reliable landline is no longer enough to meet the needs of the consumer or the corporation. To that end, wireless local area network (WLAN) does not need an Ethernet connection to deliver the bandwidth that users rely upon.

WLAN is an extension to an existing wired network or some alternative to the wired network. This technology was adopted vigorously by higher education and is increasingly important in cellular radio communication, as wired communications are limited in its ability to deliver usage of network-dependent solutions like Internet services.

ADTRAN (News - Alert), as captured on this page, is one of the world’s leading networking and communications equipment companies that offers a number of WLAN devices that add value to any company’s communications needs, including the NetVanta 150 and the NetVanta 3400 series of devices.

The NetVanta 150 is a small device that provides concurrent 802.11b/g and 802.11a radio communications support. The WLAN device supports speeds up to 54Mbps, and is considered a business-class access point.

The dual radio wireless access point offers business-class security with WPA and WPA2 support for an added layer of security on the network. The 150 is easy to setup and use. The back of the device has four inputs, including two for antennas, one for power, and one for the Ethernet/PoE input.

The NetVanta 3400 series is a more complex piece of engineering that also adds great value to the WLAN series offered by ADTRAN. The 3400 series is a multiservice access router solution, including devices that can complete a variety of networking functions all through one central device. The device includes an IP router, support for IPSec Virtual Private Networking, a modular WAN interface, and a firewall that performs stateful packet inspections.

Enterprises that take on the 3400 series are looking for a device that can handle corporate connectivity, IP telephony, carrier Ethernet and Internet access. The WLAN 3400 series offers voice quality monitoring, RapidRoute technology for extremely high performance, IPSec virtual private network capabilities for highly secure Internet connectivity, and standards-based routing and switching protocols.

The 3400 series includes single-slot/dual Ethernet modular routers, Dual slot/Dual Ethernet modular routers, and bundled packages that include power supplies.

ADTRAN’s WLAN device engineering recently caught the eye of Transbeam (News - Alert), one of the fastest growing, network-based, carrier-grade Ethernet services. Transbeam chose ADTRAN’s WLAN devices to help them deliver better services to more consumers. Transbeam and other companies also choose ADTRAN’s WLAN solutions because it offers lower cost of ownership.

ADTRAN has been involved in improving cloud-based mobile data offload solutions. The company’s WLAN technologies allow the enterprise to connect with the network without the need for hardware-based controllers, which helps companies save time and money while offering a more superior service.

To find out more about ADTRAN visit the company at ITEXPO West 2012. To be held Oct. 2-5 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX, ITEXPO (News - Alert) is the world’s premiere communications and technology event. Visit ADTRAN in booth # 1313.
