What is Wireless Management

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

With mobile devices practically dominating and changing the way we work and live, the proper wireless management processes must be put into place in order to ensure that SMBs and enterprises are getting the most out of their wireless services. With technology pushing so fast toward wireless environments, you need to have wireless management in place to guarantee the reliability, security and performance necessary to optimize your environment.

No matter the size of a company, it is beneficial for businesses to leverage mobile devices for their employees to have constant access to both internal and external communications no matter their location. However, maintaining a number of wireless devices can be more complicated than one would imagine, particularly when a number of different individuals are utilizing the devices. All too often, subscribers feel locked into the specifications of their wireless bills and wind up putting extra monthly charges at the wayside instead of dealing with them directly.

For businesses who manage more than one wireless device, the extensity of a monthly bill can be even more tedious, adding many more attributes to the equation. The language that wireless bills are in is hard for any general user to decipher, let alone someone with wireless management experience. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could hire a company to decipher and maintain your wireless management for you?

Companies dedicated to wireless management provide customers with reports to help organizations make more effective and strategic decisions necessary to promote their initiatives. These decisions can easily be made with the insights captured in these detailed, dynamic reports that focus on user behavior.

The underlying concept of wireless management is telecom expense management, however, wireless management involves a more in-depth look into your monthly mobile device management and bills.

And, with this insight, you can more easily focus on wireless management as you gain an understanding of how employees are using their wireless tools, as well as the ability to identify those critical problem areas that must be addressed.

This reporting capability from such companies provides the necessary wireless management tools to drive down costs. These reports aggregate information across carriers providing inventory information that carriers do not deliver.

To drive effective wireless management, it is critical that wireless devices are not viewed as just a business expense. These valuable tools are used by employees to close deals, communicate with customers, and work while on the road. As a result, your wireless devices have effectively become strategic assets. Wireless management in relation to devices is challenging, however, as they are tied to user behavior, which changes all the time.
