Web Conferencing: Changing the Face of Business

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Web conferencing is changing the way businesses work today. With the down economy and companies’ need to slash travel budgets, the technology is increasingly becoming an important tool as organizations discover the value of communicating and sharing documents on a Web-based interface.

Video conference, which is part of Web conferencing technology, simulates an “online” meeting where participants see each other, hear each other, and talk as if they were sitting in the same room. The technology has transformed the way in which companies like The Conference Group help organizations interact with clients and customers.

With its video conference technology, The Conference Group (News - Alert) can introduce new products to retailers, and vendors who may not close enough to attend a meeting. Users can not only share the product visually, but also share information with attendees in a “meeting” format.

“Our Web-based technology has allowed us to share information on a much grander – and certainly more convenient – scale,” the company said in a recent blog post.

For example, video conferencing can help companies looking to launch new products save time and money. Before the arrival of Web conferencing, new product launches often translated into long days and nights on the job – putting together comprehensive information in a variety of formats for our clients, vendors and retailers, The Conference Group said.

And for the geographically dispersed retailers that carry the products, it meant making numerous trips to deliver the information. But with the high cost of travel and the weak economy, many organizations are forgoing the travel in favor of vide conference, officials said.

“Through video conference we can invite our retailers to one comprehensive Web conferencing program and there we can introduce our product visually as well as supply our attendees with the information they need – delivered right to them in a manner of presentation that we would use in a traditional meeting,” company officials said

With the growth of video, the medium is taking on a growing importance in company’s marketing strategies.

“Video conference makes all things possible and gives us an ideal alternative to meeting in person while still allowing us to be effective and professional,” The Conference Group said.

The Conference Group is a leading provider of Web-based, on-demand audio, Web and videoconferencing services. The company’s ReadyShow offering is a full-featured, on-demand, “reservationless” Web conferencing service that lets companies and individual users conduct conferences either on a scheduled basis or “on-the-fly.” Because it is a fully Web-based service, it is ideal for ad-hoc conferences where simplicity and flexibility are required.

With the platform, companies can conduct Web tours, demonstrate Web services, or leverage online content during presentations. Users can allows share desktop applications for real-time software demonstrations and application training. Live video feeds are also available to those who install a Web camera.
