Expand Networks, a provider of WAN optimization for branch office consolidation and virtualization, announced a new pricing model for telecommunications companies, managed service providers (MSPs) and cloud providers.

The new pricing structure, according to company officials, enables the service providers to procure Expand's WAN optimization solution on a monthly subscription based 'pay-as-you-sell' model.

The all-inclusive subscription cost covers all infrastructure requirements, such as accelerators, licensing, management and maintenance. The subscription is charged on a quarterly basis over a two to five year contract term, the company said. Expand is in talks with a number of service providers interested in signing up to its new service provider partner program.

The service is available after July 1.

This new approach to WAN optimization procurement enables service providers to choose their own infrastructure as much as is needed and when it is needed. They can choose their licensing, management and maintenance requirements. Service providers pay only when the service is utilized by the customers.

The offering is based on Expand's Virtual Accelerator or "VACC," Accelerator appliance or "ACC" and Mobile Accelerator or "MACC" range of WAN optimization products, and managed by its ExpandView Virtual or "EVV" solution.

The service delivers all infrastructure upfront, and then priced on the number of remote connections terminating at the datacenter, bandwidth speed at the branch office and number of concurrent connections for remote clients.

Adam Davison, corporate vice president of sales and marketing at Expand Networks (News - Alert), said, "Unlike other competitive offerings where traditional enterprise pricing models have been retro fitted for the service provider market, our approach has been purposely developed to be a true subscription based service as opposed to a deferred CAPEX model."

"By moving from a 'build it and they will come' approach to a customer driven model, we can completely de-risk service providers customer acquisition strategies, only having to invest in a solution as and when they actually sell it," Davison added.

Expand's complete end-to-end WAN optimization offerings and flexible deployment options enable service providers to meet customer needs around major IT initiatives, including server based computing; virtual desktop infrastructure; and branch office server consolidation and replacement, as well as enhancing 3G/4G mobility for remote and mobile workers, company officials said.

As part of its go-to-market strategy for its new commercial offering Expand is launching its new Managed Service Provider partner program, and is seeking service provider partners including MSPs, Telcos and Cloud providers that are currently active in designing, building, implementing and managing services to end user organizations.

In May, Expand announced that Baiada Poultry, an Australian provider of poultry products, selected its WAN optimization technology to effectively prioritize traffic over the WAN, resulting in substantial improvements in company processes, TMCnet reported.
