London-based Voipswitch, a developer of VoIP platform solutions and a subsidiary of Voiceserve Inc., today announced the release of a new Android (News - Alert)-powered module of their softphone, “Vippie Mobile.”

 

According to officials with VoIPswitch, once the new softphone application is downloaded, Android users can place local and international calls via Wi-Fi, GPRS, 3G or Edge connections.

 

Voiceserve’s CTO, Chris Oglaza, said this latest release is a follow-on to the company’s recent success with Nokia (News - Alert)-Symbian and Windows dialers for Vippie.

 

"Our latest version of Vippie Mobile for Android Phone customers is the perfect solution for communicating via such a sophisticated handset using Wi-Fi.”

 

Also, with the growing iPhone (News - Alert) user base, Oglaza said the company expects rapid demand for the new Android module.

 

VoipSwitch provides operators with all the tools necessary to rapidly and successfully deliver VoIP services.

 

All calls placed between Vippie users are free of charge regardless of each contacts geographical location.

 

Also, like all other VoipSwitch mobile softphones, the new Vippie for Android module offers an integrated VoIP tunnel technology so communications can be made even from otherwise blocked regions.

 

Other notable features of the VoIP software client include the ability to make and receive calls using the SIP protocol and support for the highly compressed g729 and g711 codecs.

Commenting on the company’s extended feature offerings, Michal Kozlowski, Voiceserve COO said, “While the benefits of VOIP are immense, we provide services linking mobile connectivity to VOIP, helping customers realize greater communications savings than they'd ever imagined.”

 

Other features that will be added soon include the ability to send and receive SMS over SIP protocol, Voipswitch officials told TMCnet.
