Voipswitch Teams with Sangoma's NetBorder Express Gateway

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

In an effort to broaden the range of telephony connectivity for their customers, Voiceserve and Sangoma Technologies have successfully completed interoperability tests between their product lines.

The Voiceserve softswitch and Sangoma's NetBorder Express Gateway are both based on the SIP communication protocol for Voice-over-IP (VoIP), and now include comprehensive functionality and stability tests to ensure users of the Voipswitch software can select the Sangoma gateway device to create cost-effective switching applications, according to Chris Oglaza CTO Voiceserve.

"The combination of Sangoma's NetBorder Express Gateway (News - Alert) and Voipswitch Softswitch provides a robust and reliable PSTN switching platform," said Oglaza.

The London-based Voiceserve’s VoipSwitch is a custom modular all-in-one VoIP management platform licensing solution for resellers delivering VoIP airtime minutes bundled with features including virtual numbers, direct dial, Web callback, call forwarding, IP PBX (News - Alert) and mobile softphone technology. Voiceserve recently won a 2009 NGN Leadership Award from NGN Magazine, a TMC (News - Alert) publication.

"The boards are available in different configurations with ISDN E1/T1 ports as well as analogue ports. NetBorder Express provides in addition a set of management tools which allow for seamless configuration with voipswitch," said Oglaza.

In recent years, Voiceserve has extended its softephone client to include Voipswitch “Vippie Mobile SIP Softphone.” The advent of EDGE, 3G and WiFi (News - Alert) technology has brought with it increasing innovation in the mobile telecom space. And softphones are playing an increasingly important role in these innovations as companies look to streamline cost reducing technologies.

Frederic Dickey, director of Product Management at Sangoma, said the interoperability process is relatively straightforward. The Sangoma board is inserted into the Voipswitch server and clients will not need any expensive external gateways.

"NetBorder Express TDM-to-SIP Gateway solution in combination with Voipswitch's software makes a great switching platform for networks of all types," said Dickey.

The calling card, wholesale termination and IP PBX scenarios will be enhanced dramatically with the NetBorder Express Gateway installed, said Dickey. Also, having a Sangoma board will act as a secure backup in the event that the internet link is severed and in turn permitting traffic to pass through PSTN trunks.

In addition, the added facility now available for Voipswitch clientele, the use of Sangoma hardware cards, enables its customers to deploy PSTN trunks with extremely modest costs.
