VoIP continues to show strong growth in different segments and regions. According to IHS (News - Alert), the global service provider VoIP and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) equipment market totaled $1.4 billion in the third quarter of 2015, up 34 percent from the same period a year ago.
The IHS “Infonetics (News - Alert) Service Provider VoIP and IMS Equipment and Subscribers” report found that most product segments—except softswitches and home subscriber servers (HSS)— notched year-over-year revenue growth in the third quarter. IMS contributed 65 percent of worldwide VoIP and IMS revenue in the period.
Also, with mobile operators worldwide ramping for VoLTE and voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi), combined with core wireline network spending, the market continues to show strong returns, the firm found.
“Strong sales from Asia-Pacific, largely due to voice over LTE (News - Alert) (VoLTE) spending in China, resulted in healthy growth for the carrier VoIP and IMS market in the third quarter,” said Diane Myers, research director for VoIP, UC and IMS at IHS. “We knew spending related to VoLTE in China would start occurring in late 2015 and early 2016, and the impact has started to intensify.”
She added, “Additionally, a broader set of EMEA operators have launched or are getting ready to launch VoLTE in the next 12 months, and this is creating a consistent flow of sales from that region.”
Huawei (News - Alert) continues to be a stalwart in the service provider VoIP and IMS market, capturing the revenue market share lead again in Q3.
Overall, three telecom network vendors, Huawei, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent, increased their revenue in the global service provider VoIP and IMS market. GENBAND has disappeared from the top five list, and Nokia (News - Alert) Networks, which will be buying Alcatel-Lucent, has improved its position to No. 4. Oracle came in at No. 5.
