Quintum Helps IDC Support Microsoft OCS with VoIP

Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

IDC, an Italian integrator and Microsoft Certified Partner, announced today that it’s picked Quintum’s (News - Alert) Tenor BX switch to support its Microsoft OCS environment with VoIP connectivity.

Prior to Quintum, IDC (News - Alert) was using another vendor’s certified gateway to implement VoIP.

The integrator had to face a number of problems with that gateway, company officials say, such as failures connecting to the toll-free numbers of discount long distance providers. Those problems were solved by Quintum’s ability to handle the pre-connection messaging of these providers, according to the company.

Quintum Tenor switches offer a complete, robust gateway solution for Microsoft (News - Alert) OCS environments, officials say. The solution includes ‘Any to Any’ switching, built-in SIP proxy services, support for analog devices, and remote-office survivability, they say.

Valerio Capodacqua, technical director at IDC, said Quintum Tenor switches are superior to any other gateway that the company’s used. The Tenor was able to meet all of IDC’s technical requirements and so enabled them to reap the business benefits that convergence offers, Capodacqua said.

Capodacqua said that the Tenor switch also delivered higher voice quality, as measured both objectively by Microsoft’s monitoring tools and subjectively by IDC’s end-users. Quintum also provided IDC with strong technical support, according to Capodacqua.

“Quintum’s ability to accommodate nearly any type of existing network and telecom infrastructure makes it a compelling choice for resellers and integrators, as well as their customers,” said Chuck Rutledge (News - Alert), Quintum’s vice president of marketing. “We are very pleased to work closely with IDC to address their customers’ particular unique requirements.”

Impressed by Quintum’s products and technical support, IDC officials said they’ve decided to implement Tenor switches at several customer sites throughout Italy.

Quintum Technologies, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Equipment Technologies, Inc., delivers VoIP solutions that bring the reliability and voice clarity of public telephone networks to Internet telephony. Earlier this month, Irish solutions provider TIPS picked Quintum technology to implement an innovative and highly effective “land and expand” strategy that makes it easy for customers to give the go-ahead to money-saving VoIP initiatives by eliminating both capital cost and risk.
