Tektronix Wins Award for Wireless Network Monitoring Market Leadership

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

Network test solutions company Tektronix (News - Alert) announced this week that it won a Frost & Sullivan’s Award for Market Leadership in the wireless network monitoring systems market. The company was recognized for its product offering, brand awareness, growth strategy and global presence.

All of these successful elements add up to Tektronix’s current, strong position in the market.

“Tektronix strives to be on the cutting edge of technology to provide scalable, flexible solutions that address the evolving needs of our customers, in particular the move to all-IP networks,” said Doug Dickerson, vice president and general manager of network management at Tektronix, in a statement.

Dickerson added: “Major operators have discovered that these networks are very complex to build, monitor and maintain. As a result, our size and experience in rolling out monitoring systems for these complex cutting-edge technologies is proving to be a strong benefit to our customers.”

Back in 2003, Tektronix held a market share of 6.7 percent. Since that time, thanks in part to the acquisition of INET Technologies (September, 2004), the company grew its foothold significantly. During 2006, it ranked first in the global wireless network monitoring market, with 39.6 percent share.

Tektronix continues to keep a strong grasp on current and future trends affecting the market. For example, in 2006 the company expanded its IMS performance monitoring solutions portfolio by introducing end-to-end IMS monitoring capabilities for its unified assurance solution.

IMS is not the only market segment Tektronix focuses on. The company also offers monitoring solutions for SS7, GSM, GPRS, UMTS and IP networks. These solutions provide a variety of robust features, including real-time alarms, accelerated problem detection and compact, scalable footprints. Such solutions from Tektronix are designed for integrated use by carriers to troubleshoot subscriber issues.

Also, Frost & Sullivan cited Tektronix’s strong brand image, which has helped the company close deals with several major network operators.

“Tektronix has a growth strategy based on increasing its market share in core product categories, expanding its addressable market, leveraging its core strengths into adjacent positions, and focusing on highest growth sectors with long term potential for growth,” said Frost & Sullivan industry manager Jessy Cavazos, in a statement.

Since technology changes so fast, Tektronix is not resting on its laurels but continuing significant investments in research and development, and considering all strategic mergers and acquisitions. One such recent investment was in VoIP test solutions company Minacom (News - Alert).

“Tektronix has established itself as a true leader in the world wireless network monitoring systems market with various operations, manufacturing sites, development centers, and distributors strategically located in more than 19 countries worldwide, to support its global customer base,” said Cavazos. “Its strong product offering, brand awareness, valid growth strategy, and global presence are likely to ensure that it remains a dominant force in the market for years to come.”

Frost & Sullivan’s Award for Market Leadership is handed out each year in various markets to companies that exhibit market share leadership by implementing a strong strategy.
