Tektronix Unveils New Monitor for Ensuring Digital TV Service Quality

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Tektronix (News - Alert), Inc., a global provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, has launched its new MTM400A MPEG Transport Stream Monitor.

Thanks to the MTM400A, broadcasters and network operators can easily detect signal degradation caused during transmission and distribution to find and diagnose errors more quickly to prevent viewers from experiencing loss of signal.

A powerful new FlexVuPlus user interface in the MTM400A leverages the deep measurement capabilities of the MTM platform to deliver greatly simplified DTV monitoring and diagnostics. As the MTM400A with FlexVuPlus provides a configurable common user interface for both confidence and diagnostic monitoring it improves communication handover between operator and engineer.

In addition, the new monitor enables a faster understanding of initial fault reporting, which accelerates time to overall problem resolution.

Tektronix explained that, because of the evolving DTV market traditional, broadcasters and multi-service operators (MSOs) are challenged to find ways how to efficiently deliver superior Quality of Service (QoS) levels to maintain differentiation. The MTM400A provides an intuitive and simplified presentation of video quality and diagnostic information, enabling delivery of superior QoS levels in an increasingly complex broadcast environment.

The MTM400A also provides a common measurement engine for both confidence monitoring and diagnostic monitoring that ensures consistency in measurement results. The broadcasters and network operators also eliminate the time lost in verifying discrepancies between measurement instruments used in operations and engineering.

Arif Kareem, vice president, Video Product Line, Tektronix said in a statement that with increasing complexity and investment requirements, broadcasters and MSOs need test and monitoring instruments that provide greater capabilities and more intuitive operation.

Kareem explained that the new MTM400A with FlexVuPlus provides the integrated confidence and diagnostic monitoring to support broadcasters and MSOs in delivering superior QoS to maximise subscriber growth and advertising revenue through improved information delivery, presentation, and digital workflow. The MTM400A helps Tektronix’s customers with their transition to digital video, adoption of new technologies, and management of complex workflows.

Felipe Olvera, director of Engineering, Network Center, Oregon Public Broadcasting said that the number of video services being transmitted is continuously increasing in the evolving digital era, which makes the need to monitor the transport streams being transmitted ever more important.

Olvera observed that broadcasters and network operators need a cost effective, scalable, distributable, and easy to use solution to detect signal degradation caused during transmission and distribution before it impacts the viewer. Oregon Public Broadcasting have been using the MTM400A and found that it meets the organization’s needs, helping to provide high quality service for customers.

Tektronix company begins shipments of the new MTM400A with FlexVuPlus this month. The new FlexVuPlus UI and System Software is offered as a complimentary upgrade for existing MTM400 owners.

Tektronix is a supplier of test, measurement, and monitoring products, solutions and services for the communications, computer, and semiconductor industries—as well as military/aerospace, consumer electronics, education and a broad range of other industries worldwide.
