VoIP test solutions provider Minacom announced today another new feature added to its DirectQualilty R7 platform: the ability to use hybrid fiber-coax network cable transponders for troubleshooting and monitoring service quality.
The new functionality allows testing of VoIP, Internet and digital video services.
This additional loopback testing feature (which is compatible with DOCSIS-enabled transponders, including those from Tollgrade) let operators validate VoIP speech quality (MOS, R-factor), packet jitter, delay, and loss.
Simulation of more than 35 audio and video codecs is also provided, with user-definable parameters for jitter-buffer, IP precedence, ToS, packet interval, and payload size.
Plus, DirectReach test agents now can combine RTP-loopback testing with statistics collected from management information-bases. The result is concurrent access to information at four different layers: physical, RF, network, and service.
Transponders now can be used to retrieve the following information:
-
Upstream/downstream RF frequencies and power levels
-
Modulation
-
Bandwidth
-
Upstream packet loss rate
-
Pre/post FEC error rates
-
Downstream signal-to-noise and modulation error ratios (SNR/MER)
-
Reset history
-
Invalid messages received
-
Power supply performance
-
QAM troubleshooting measurements
“Transponder remote-testing compliments DirectQuality’s ability to perform audio/analog and RTP loopback testing to subscriber-MTAs, providing complete remote troubleshooting and monitoring test visibility throughout the cable access network,” explained Minacom’s CEO, Michel Nadeau, in a press release.
Nadeau continued: “By now supporting remote testing to MTAs and transponders, Minacom has added cost-effective remote-troubleshooting to our award-winning provisioning and test-automation solutions, giving Cable MSOs the complete end-to-end test coverage they need to deliver best-in-class VoIP and triple-play services.”
Minacom is exhibiting DirectQuality R7’s new features at the SCTE CableTec show in Denver, Colorado, June 20-23; visit the company at booth #1931.
