The IPv6 SIP Ready Logo Program Released by the IPv6 Forum

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

The test suite of the SIP protocol for validation and issuance of the SIPv6 Logo to the SIP Community has been released by the IPv6 Forum Ready Logo Program Committee. By improving market and user awareness, IPv6 is promoted by the IPv6 forum, a world-wide consortium of leading vendors, Internet service vendors, National research & Education Networks and international ISPs.

In a release, Latif Ladid, who is the president of the IPv6 Forum & Emeritus Trustee Internet Society, said 'SIP and IPv6 are two good plumbing roommates. The IPv6 SIP Logo program marries them, preparing for fertile grounds. It's high time to move to end-2-end. IPv6 and SIP are natively designed for it. The best way around something is to go through it.'

According to Yanick Pouffary, chairperson of IPv6 Forum Logo programs and IPv6 Forum Fellow & NAv6TF Technology Director, the partnership between the IPv6 Ready Logo and the SIP Forum (News - Alert) is once again a testimony of the importance to have an industry-wide measure of IPv6 capabilities and interoperability. A greater level of seamless integration is ensured by this partnership.

The executive director of Japan IPv6 council and Chair of IPv6 Ready Logo program, Emeritus Trustee, ISOC, Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Esaki, believes that SIP is widely used by various types of applications, including VoIP service or unified message service. The future infrastructure will find the establishment of interoperability among various equipments or objects critical. As the forum shares the importance of IPv6 and SIP, the forum is pleased to start a strategic co-operation between SIP Forum and IPv6 Forum, regarding the SIPv6 Logo Program, the professor added.

In a release, Erica Johnson, the IPv6 Ready Logo Regional Officer and IPv6 Forum Fellow said, 'By testing these two intertwined technologies, the SIPv6 Logo is a great move forward. Given the importance of testing in verifying interoperability, this will be a great building block toward seamless coexistence.'

IPv6 Ready Logo Regional Officer and IPv6 Forum Fellow, Hiroshi Miyata said that highly interoperable network services are provided by the complementing key technologies, IPv6 and SIP.

The IPv6 Ready Logo program is available at http://www.ipv6ready.org, where one can test and obtain the IPv6 SIP Ready Logo.
