Telecom Cook Islands Deploys REDCOM VoIP Switch Network

REDCOM (News - Alert), a provider of telecommunications products such as VoIP switches, has recently been selected by Telecom Cook Islands (TCI).Telecom Cook Islands will now be leveraging REDCOM’s HDX and SLICE 2100 International/IP/End Office switches to replace its legacy NEAX 61 exchange network providing a highly resilient, cost-effective network.

The network transformation has helped TCI enjoy a distributed infrastructure, employing an IP/fiber backbone on the main island of Rarotonga driven by REDCOM’s HDX.

Thanks to the REDCOM’s ClusterNet technology incorporated in the HDX, the technology allows the VoIP switch to be distributed geographically to two locations on Rarotonga, offering two points of call control, satellite access and business connectivity. Moreover, the REDCOM SLICE 2100s enables TCI to provide remote populations with the same services as offered in Rarotonga.

“TCI’s engineering staff started with a vision of how a disaster-resistant, powerful and flexible IP-based network should be designed. Then they implemented that vision in a manner that was technically, practically, and fiscally responsible. TCI now has the banner network, leading all others in the Asia/Pacific region,” said Charles DeRoller, director of International Sales and Marketing, REDCOM, in a statement.

One reason why TCI opted for the REDCOM VoIP switch and platform was the cost factor. In addition, the company closely analyzed the solution’s resilience against net-based attacks and natural disasters.

“Other options required service agreements that triple the actual price of the softswitch in ten years” added Jules Maher, CEO of Telecom Cook Islands. “With REDCOM’s No Maintenance Agreement policy, there is no scheduled expense for service.”

REDCOM HDX provides the company with an energy efficient network solution that uses a low amount of power. For this reason, the REDCOM solution by far made the best sense for TCI’s needs.
