Sippy Software, a provider of Internet telephony solutions such as VoIP switches, recently revealed that it will be powering IPv6 support for its Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) softswitch and Session Border Controller (SBC) products.

The upcoming version 4.0 of Sippy’s softswitch/ VoIP switch will offer enhanced support for IPv6, the latest revision of Internet Protocol replacing the IPv4. IPv6 implements a new addressing system that allows for far more addresses to be assigned than with IPv4.

"This is an important step forward in delivering innovative products and solutions in the ever changing telecommunication environment. IPv6 general and brings numerous benefits to the VoIP in particular,” said Maksym Sobolyev, CEO of Sippy Software, in a statement. “It removes many boundaries and limitations of the old version 4 of the IP protocol.”

Worldwide IPv6 adoption is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. In fact, the World IPv6 Launch that took place on June 6th drove several IPv6 initiatives to begin from major Internet service providers, especially from countries that had been lagging in IPv6 adoption previously.

Sobolyev believes IPv6 adoption will further grow among telcos of all sizes in the next one to two years. “Both ARIN (News - Alert) and RIPE are now pushing heavily towards the migration by refusing to allocate any new IPv4 addresses,” he added.

The Sippy Softswitch is one of the first products in its class to fully support IPv6. It boasts unmatched reliability and capacity of up to 10,000 concurrent SIP sessions on a single out-of-the-shelf server hardware.

With IPv6 support, this solution will bring peace of mind to existing customers, while providing new clients with a fully functional SBC to bridge the gap between IPv4 networks and IPv6-only VoIP infrastructure.

The IPv6-ready Sippy Softswitch is expected to be released in Q4 2012. Following the release, the company will provide a free-of-charge upgrade to existing customers with the active support and maintenance contracts.
