VoIP Switch - IMS Core Market Including VoIP Switches Grpws by 40 Percent

September 12, 2012

While previous reports suggested that Voice over LTE (News - Alert) accelerated the sales of voice core equipment including VoIP switches last quarter, wireline deployments have driven the growth of Global IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) Core market in the second quarter, according to Exact Ventures.

According to the report, the IMS Core market has grown 40 percent when compared to the same quarter last year, mainly driven by the strong demand created by wireline deployments in China. However, these deployments were not strong enough for the market to increase sequentially over the first quarter of this year.

Additionally, strong VoLTE deployments in North America boosted the IMS core market in the first quarter. And strong sales in the domestic market have helped Huawei lead the IMS Core market for this time period, followed by Nokia Siemens (News - Alert), Ericsson, and Mavenir.

Total NGN voice and the IMS Core market grew only slightly quarter-over-quarter as seasonal strength in the wireless voice core market was barely able to offset sequential weakness in the legacy wireline NGN and IMS Core markets.

However, the service provider session border controller (SP-SBC) market was not affected by the weakness in wireline spending as it was essentially flat both sequentially and year-over-year.

"The total SBC market continues to be boosted by the enterprise SBC category (E-SBC), which continues to be fueled by strong adoption of hosted unified communications and SIP trunking services" said Greg Collins, founder and principal analyst at research firm Exact Ventures, in a statement.  "The E-SBC market was up nearly 20 percent year-over-year in 2Q12.”

Just last month, the Dell’ (News - Alert)Oro Group revealed that service provider voice core equipment spending is expected to hover at approximately $8 billion per year over the next five years. The voice core equipment market includes IMS Core equipment such as robust VoIP switches, voice application servers and session border controllers.
