A VoIP switch or softswitch is a vital element of any telecommunications network that connects various IP networks in order to successfully deliver end-to-end VoIP communications.
Recently, VoIP switch provider PortaOne (News - Alert) revealed that its PortaSwitch Procinctus is driving VoIP growth at Backbone Solutions, a Switzerland-based provider of VoIP and Internet services.
In addition to business and residential customers, Backbone Solutions offers wholesale VoIP to Internet Service Provider (ISP) resellers.
Backbone Solutions implemented the basic PortaSwitch product more than eight years ago. As the company grew, it added elements and servers to support the PortaSwitch Procinctus in 2010.
Thanks to the PortaSwitch Procinctus VoIP services and subscriber management platform, Backbone Solutions has grown over time delivering technical superiority, exceptional customer service, fair pricing and a diverse range of services. The company now serves nearly 30,000 residential and business customers.
PortaSwitch Procinctus combines a VoIP softswitch, customer provisioning, billing, as well as unified voice, data, fax, content, SMS, and Wi-Fi traffic, all within a single converged network. It delivers a high capacity, fully redundant and converged VoIP infrastructure for Internet telephony service providers (ITSPs).
"PortaSwitch Procinctus has not only grown with us, it is one of the primary reasons we've been able to grow our VoIP customer base over time," said Michael Vontobel, CEO of Backbone Solutions, in a statement. "It has allowed us to gradually improve the capacity and redundancy of our system as our needs have changed.”
The open access to the PortaSwitch source code gives Backbone Solutions the ability to be unusually flexible in the services they offer to customers.
"With one comprehensive platform our operations are more automated, which saves on staff costs. It also dramatically lowers the risk of human error,” Vontobel further added. “Perhaps best of all, we're able to bring features and services to market extremely fast since there is no need for interoperability tests or costly integration projects."
