VoIP Switch - GL Unveils Digital Central Office VoIP Switch Simulator Software

April 19, 2012

GL Communications (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of PC-based test, analysis and simulation products and consulting services to the worldwide telecommunications industry, unveiled its Digital Central Office Switch Simulator (DCOSS) software, boating VoIP functionality.

“The Digital Central Office Switch Simulator (DCOSS) converts a PC (portable, tower, rack-mount) into a digital central office switch simulator, PBX (News - Alert) and switch, complete with T1, E1, POTS, and VoIP Interfaces,” said Robert Bichefsky, senior manager of G L Communications, in a statement.

With a user-friendly graphical interface (GUI), through which complex switching, signaling, and digital transmission functions are easily controlled, users can implement this solution to see a much higher level of flexibility required by next-generation telephony test equipment. The DCOSS also powers remote client access (GUI, CLI, SDK) and scripting with which users can capture the performance of networks in a wide variety of scenarios.

This new and highly robust offering is ideal for simulating and testing advanced telecom networks and products, including switches, gateways, and transmission systems.

“The DCOSS can also be used for verifying T1 E1 signaling protocols of new systems. These protocols include a variety of T1 E1 CAS, PRI ISDN, BRI-ST ISDN, SS7, No Call Control, Fax over T1 E1 (V.29, V.27, V.33, and V.17), Modem over T1 E1 (V.21, V.23, V.34, V.90, and V.92), and VoIP protocols (SIP, H.323, MEGACO, MGCP, Fax over IP – T.38),” he added.

GL's Digital Central Office Switch Simulator (DCOSS) along with the GL's Media Gateway (News - Alert) (MG) supports traffic and signaling testing of VoIP and TDM networks.

The DCOSS / Media Gateway combination provides user friendly bulk call generation, scripting, and other automated call generation and reception capabilities for various voiceband traffic types including voice, fax, and modem traffic. It can be connected to any TDM or IP Phone (News - Alert), softphone, VoIP or TDM PBX, or TDM or VoIP Network / Cloud.

Traditional phone lines might have their place in a highly connected society, but the truth of the matter is, to stay afloat in a competitive business landscape, one needs a bit more than a plain old telephone system (POTS).
