Mu Dynamics to Participate in Cisco's Toolapalooza

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Mu Dynamics has been gearing up for a big 2009.

While the California-based company’s efforts to help network operators and their vendors eliminate downtime through proactive service assurance expanded in 2008, Mu is expecting even bigger leaps this year.

Now, the company has announced it will participate in Cisco’s (News - Alert) Toolapalooza event next month in San Jose, California. The event is from April 22 to April 23.

Mu Dynamics’ Co-founder and CTO Kowisk Guruswamy will give a presentation titled “Vulnerabilities Die Hard” which is expected to center around service assurance and how to eliminate downtime.

The company’s Denial of Service (DoS) Module for the Mu-4000 appliance is designed to ensure service providers can proactively identify and eliminate service, application and network downtime caused by DoS and Distributed DoS attacks.

In fact, studies from Network Strategy Partners (NSP) and others put the cost of downtime for a large service provider network in excess of $100,000 per hour.

One company that has experienced the advantages of deploying Mu’s platform is Juniper Networks (News - Alert).

Avishai Avivi, director of Security Engineering and Research at Juniper Networks, said the assurance team plays an integral role in the Juniper product development process to ensure the overall quality of our security product portfolio including Firewall/VPN and Intrusion (News - Alert) Detection and Prevention systems.

“To ensure our global base of customers receive the highest possible level of on-going security with both new products and updates to existing platforms, we have added the Mu-4000 Analyzer to our pre-release, technical marketing and field upgrade efforts. Using Mu's appliance allows us to automate many costly script-testing tasks that previously were manual," he said.

As networks have become more essential to the operation of businesses worldwide they are becoming more complex. This increased functionality drives complexity and makes it harder to manage, less robust or resilient, and contain an increasing number of security vulnerabilities.

And while companies like Mu Dynamics help address these issues through analysis solutions designed to improve the reliability and uptime of networked products and IP business services, they are also proactively addressing robustness and resiliency factors before systems are deployed in production environments.
