China Leads Carrier VoIP and IMS Markets in the First Quarter of 2010

Globally the first quarter of 2010 did not deliver spectacular results telecom-wise, but China ruled the carrier VoIP and IMS markets in the first quarter of 2010, according to Infonetics Research.


The international market research and consulting firm has announced the Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers and IMS Equipment and Subscribers market share and forecast reports for the first quarter of 2010.

Diane Myers, the directing analyst for service provider VoIP and IMS at Infonetics (News - Alert) Research, stated that the Chinese service provider activity was strong enough in the first quarter of 2010 to push carrier VoIP manufacturer income in the Asia Pacific up 16 percent from the past quarter, and Asia Pacific's share of global IMS equipment income up 20 percentage points, even in a normally down quarter worldwide.

According to Infonetics Research, the IMS Market stresses on the global IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) equipment market continuing its pattern of tremendous rise and fall from quarter to quarter.

The research firm predicts service providers to spend $4.4 billion on IMS equipment in a period of 5 years. The IMS equipment market is going through a robust growth determined by the continued implementation of VoIP services around the globe, the migration of VoIP services to IMS networks, LTE (News - Alert) and improved mobile service deployments.

The report brings to light the fact that the carrier VoIP markets showed traditional declines in 1Q10 after 3 successive quarters of growth. It's down 12.6 percent from the past quarter. The report also stressed that year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter declines are getting better for sectors in the carrier VoIP equipment market. The year-over-year, session border controller income also increased by 24 percent and the media servers were the highlight of the market in the first quarter of 2010, said Infonetics.
