VoIP Phones – snom's VoIP Phones Now Interoperable with ScopTEL IP PBX Interface for Asterisk

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

snom technology, which develops and manufactures of advanced VoIP phones for enterprise and residential markets, announced a partnership with Canada-based information technology company ScopServ International to enable interoperability of its VoIP phones in open source systems.

The company announced that snom VoIP phones are now integrated and certified with ScopTEL IP PBX (News - Alert) Telephony Server and related applications from ScopServ International.

The partnership provides the growing worldwide community of snom phone users with access to ScopServ’s internationally renowned ScopTEL IP PBX telephony server, according to company officials.

ScopServ’s ScopTEL IP PBX is a Web-based graphical user interface for the configuration and management of Asterisk (News - Alert) IP PBXs. Asterisk is an open source telephony engine and tool kit.

ScopTEL manages users, extensions and other interfaces allowing multiple administrators with different levels of access and permission control to provision the system.

The end user interface of ScopTEL allows phone users to easily set up their own personal and customized calling preferences, including call forwarding, three-way calling and find-me-follow-me, company officials said.

After rigorous testing and evaluation in both companies’ respective labs, ScopServ’s suite of IP PBX management tools achieved full certification as tested and interoperable with snom’s full line of SIP-based desktop IP phones, the company said.

As a certified snom technology partner, ScopServ can now provide its customers with snom’s portfolio of advanced SIP-based desktop phones with ScopServ’s Web-based graphic user interface, including the award-winning snom 870 touchscreen desktop phone, the company said.

“snom intelligent IP endpoints serve as great complements to our GUI,” Denis Trépanier, president and CEO of ScopServ, said in a statement. “This combination gives users an interoperable end-to-end telephony system from server to desktop.”

Michael Knieling (News - Alert), executive vice president of marketing and sales for snom technology, said that a core philosophy of snom is to achieve broad interoperability with best of breed technology partners. With this partnership with ScopServ, snom continues that tradition.

In mid-February, TMCnet reported that snom technology chose Voipfone, a U.K.-based provider of VoIP phones, as an advanced-level service provider partner. The advanced service provider accolade is awarded based on the PBX functionality of Voipfone’s phones, company officials said.
