VoIPLink's VoIP Phones Support PoE Adoption

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

If you regularly utilize a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone, you are aware of all the benefits it can provide to your calling experience by connecting to the Internet, however, you may not be aware of the specifications that VoIP phones require on the backend.

VoIP phone provider, VoIPLink (News - Alert), provides and resells a number of VoIP phones, phone systems and compatible accessories that support the most recent adoption of Power over Ethernet (PoE) standards in the market.

PoE is a technology that enables network devices to connect through Ethernet cables eliminating the need to use two individual lines for assurance of data connectivity and supplying. This technology is applicable for a wide range of network products such as VoIP phones, access points, routers, IP cameras, modems, switches, and embedded computers as well as other network products.

Standard PoE is defined by standard IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3af as well as the newest prepared standard IEEE 802.3at. Power over Ethernet products using these standards include two individual active pieces: an injector and a splitter. Each active piece includes an electrical circuit which ensures the function of this solution.

In 2005, the PoETec Consortium was created to enhance the growth of the Power over Ethernet (PoE) marketplace. A key component to enhancing PoE adoption is by providing a Power Source (News - Alert) Equipment (PSE) connector that integrates PoE controllers and communication circuitry. Each VoIP phone provided by VoIPLink includes a PoE connector to ensure a standardized and simplified PSE PoE adoption.

A member of the PoE Technology Consortium, VoIPLink has adhered to the specifications of the PoE Adopter’s Agreement. Deploying PoE connections on VoIPLink’s VoIP phones ensures common interfaces for equipment interoperability and ease of use with other products.
