Market intelligence from IDC (News - Alert) revealed that Western Europe is experiencing substantial growth in the IP PBX
markets, as well as IP telephone shipments. The statistics come as companies in the region are adopting VoIP and VoIP-related technologies.
According to IDC’s release on their latest report, the overall market experienced revenue of $580 million in 3Q06, including IP
IPX and telephone shipments. As for IP telephones, Cisco took the market share, citing 34.2% in 3Q06, up from 33.7 in the previous quarter. Avaya (News - Alert) and Alcatel followed respectively, with Alcatel moving up as it makes its presence known in the Western European IP telephone market.
"Overall 3Q06 was a quarter of steady growth for the European IP PBX (News - Alert) and IP telephone market. Every quarter we see the number of IP PBX and IP telephone sales growing. Apart from the replacement of TDM
infrastructure we can see that this growth is driven by employees' need to communicate with each other more efficiently," said Rogier Mol, senior analyst for IDC's European VoIP
Infrastructure research service in the release.
Government and communications were the vertical markets with the most activity in 3Q06.
In related Euro-VoIP news, TMCnet’s Greg Galitzine reported this week that KPN, a Dutch telco is also experiencing growth in the VoIP market. As reported by Galitzine, the company cited receiving 20,000 orders for their VoIP offering on a weekly basis. For their third quarter, KPN acquired 114,000 customers.
