Cantata Adds ENUM Support, Load Balancing to VoIP Gateway
By Spencer D. Chin, TMCnet Web Editor
Cantata Technology (News - Alert) has added over 20 features to its IMG 1010 media and signaling VoIP
gateway product, including support for ENUM and load balancing.
According to Scott Wieder, director of market development for Cantata, end-to-end electronic numbering (ENUM
) protocol support is one key feature of the enhanced products. “Previously, one had to go through an intermediary network,” Wieder said an interview with TMCnet.Com. “There’s no need for PSTN
with its resultant delays and cost issues,” he said.
“With ENUM support, the IMG 1010 can now provide on-the-fly routing between telephone numbers and SIP
addresses allowing telephone calls to move completely within the IP domain,” said Shrihari Pandit, CEO of Stealth Communications, in a statement.
Load balancing support is another key feature, according to Wieder. “You can have multiple VoIP gateways operating in parallel. There is fault tolerance if one goes down, the load balancer with redistribute traffic over the remaining gateways.”
The gateway product also provides enhanced any-to-any signaling, which adds complete mapping between ISDN
and SS7, based on ITU Q.699 standard, and CAS support for more connectivity options with worldwide telecom operators
In addition, IMG 1010 provides SNMP enhancement, adding three more industry standard MIBs to allow more centralized configuration and monitoring in a network operation center Additional Radius features allow for prepaid applications, accepting messages from the radius server for call duration and call redirection services, speeding processing of prepaid user agreements at the edge of the network
The new version of the IMG 1010 will be available in April.
