QSC Announces Q-Sys Designer 3.1
By Jody Ray Bennett, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Q-Sys Designer v3.1 brings Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and interfacing support for IP PBXs and analog telephone systems via third-party FXO gateways. This allows telephone calls to be routed through the Q-Sys or audio from Q-Sys to be sent through external phone lines, making it an excellent choice for conference calls.
“Q-Sys was born of the idea that we could provide an integrated system management platform based on a standard, affordable Intel (News - Alert) architecture at a fraction of the price of systems using custom-designed processors and chipsets—and this upgrade continues that philosophy,” said Joe Peavey, the Q-Sys product manager at QSC Audio.
“Sure, you can buy dedicated interfaces to interface analog phone lines with digital conferencing systems, but they’re expensive…. In contrast, the Q-Sys Designer 3.1 update allows you to interface IP PBXs with Q-Sys quickly and simply, and if users want to route analogue phone lines in too, all that is required to do it is an FXO gateway.”
Because of the inclusion of VoIP, extra products aren’t needed to make international calls. The upgrade also includes the ability to record paging notifications, the ability for designers to create a hierarchy of codecs for VoIP systems to create high-quality calls, support for graphics for buttons and controls, better control over individual user control interfaces (including touchscreen controllers, iOS devices or Windows computers) and improvements to the URL stream receiver. The Q-Sys Designer v3.1 can now handle up to 16 simultaneous channels of audio from a media player; more powerful versions of Q-Sys can handle up to 32.
The 3.1 software update is free. Q-Sys creates audio routing, processing, control and monitoring for customers who need high-quality sound such as boardrooms, stadiums, performing arts venues and houses of worship.
