Pay television service providers seeking an affordable option for high-volume deployments that will primarily change the way consumers access content and services have a new option available to them as ViXS Systems Inc., along with its technology partners, has unveiled a new home media gateway platform, Forge, which will quench consumer demands for - content mobility and a smart home network.
Developed in partnership with Unihan, Lantiq (News - Alert) and Morega Systems, Inc., Forge facilitates for high-speed Internet access, digital voice services, and wireless delivery of premium video, pictures and music to smartphones, tablets, laptops, and connected TVs throughout the home and beyond. It includes ViXS XCode’s 4310 media transcoding system-on-chip (SoC), Lantiq's VDSL broadband modem, diverse I/O options, and innovative media management software to create a highly flexible architecture at an affordable price.
Featuring dual band dual concurrent 802.11n Wi-Fi for streaming content to wireless IP devices, the Forge platform has been integrated with the ViXS XCode 4310 Dual HD network media processor for multi-format video and audio transcoding and content security.
Apart from featuring Lantiq's XWAY VRX288 VDSL gateway platform, Forge is designed with Unihan's R&D and manufacturing expertise that facilitates for fast time to market for a cost-effective, high-volume deployment. Lantiq’s SLIC and ISDN devices support the voice services.
According to Steve Huang, corporate VP and GM of Unihan Corporation, Unihan’s strong R&D and manufacturing expertise helped in quick and cost-effective integration of ViXS, Lantiq and Morega technologies in to Forge to create a unique and a feature rich platform that meets the growing consumer demands of high bandwidth broadband access, multi-screen media access and media portability.
In addition, the Morega Systems’ comprehensive media mobility software helps Forge to present user-owned and premium content in a consistent interface across iOS, MacOS, Android (News - Alert) and Windows devices, both inside the home as well as remotely.
The media streaming in Forge is done using Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).
The Forge platform also comes with optional built-in storage. This enables consumers to store, access and share their digital content both within their home and remotely.
The platform has also been provided with optional targeted advertising solution using Morega software to replace pre-roll, post-roll and interstitial advertisements according to user analytics and statistics.
