Ooma Integrates DSP's Technology with its DECT/CAT-iq Voice Gateway Modules

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Palo Alto (News - Alert), California-based consumer telecommunications company, Ooma, has leveraged DSP Group’s XceedR CAT-iq 2.0 platform for integration into its DECT (News - Alert)/CAT-iq voice gateway modules and handset, Telo voice gateway, HD2 handset and the Linx adapter.

Unlike other VoIP services providers, Ooma offers consumers HD-quality home phone service at a nominal price. Its service precisely allows users to make phone calls anywhere in the United States with no monthly service fees.

Users are, however, required to pay a one-time fee in advance, through purchase of the Ooma Hub or Telo, and applicable government taxes along with the access fees.

DSP Group's (News - Alert) XceedR CAT-iq 2.0/DECT6.0 platform will allow Ooma to deliver a rich feature set to its home phone customers utilizing Telo voice gateway, HD2 handset and the Linx adapter.

Cordless Advanced Technology – Internet and Quality (CAT-iq) – enables carriers to introduce gateways with integrated DECT/CAT-iq 2.0 base stations that will work with any certified CAT-iq 2.0 handset. ?

This integration provides a richer feature set across different vendors, irrespective of silicon or software protocol stack implementation used in the base station or handset. ?

DSP Group's XceedR CAT-iq 2.0 is a small form-factor DECT module built on XceedR single-chip solution. It can easily and cost-effectively integrate into residential gateways and handsets, and is provided with CAT-iq 2.0 firmware and reference software features.

"Ooma's Telo voice gateway, HD2 Handset, and Linx adapter all benefit from the close cooperation between DSP Group and Ooma," said Toby Farrand, VP of engineering operations at Ooma. "But the real winners are our customers, who will enjoy the fusion of the smartphone and home phone experience, and have wireless access to services like HD voice.”

The Ooma Telo is a voice gateway device, featuring a sleek design, caller-ID, call waiting, voicemail, PureVoice HD technology, 911 services, Bluetooth and more.

The Ooma HD2 is a home-phone handset offering smartphone-like features. With DSP Group’s XceedR CAT-iq 2.0, the Ooma HD2 handset can now offer features such as cutting-edge HD voice clarity, an intercom, call transfer, 3-way conferencing, handset software upgradability, polyphonic ring tones and more.

Built on XceedR CAT-iq 2.0, the Ooma Linx adapter is able to wirelessly connect corded terminals such as phones, fax machines or other telephony devices around the home to the Ooma Telo gateway using the latest DECT 6.0 technology.

In other recent news, DSP Group’s VoIP chipset solution was selected to power the advanced IP telephones offered by Cetis Group, a manufacturer of hotel guestroom telephones, under three telephone brands: TeleMatrix, Teledex and Scitec.

Its XciteR chipset will power the TECOM MOCET Communicator.
