Lantiq's DUSLIC-xT Simplifies Voice Telephony in Broadband Gateways
By Mandira Srivastava, TMCnet Contributor
Increasing adoption of xDSL, fiber and cable-based broadband by communications service providers has made standard telephone line termination in broadband gateways an important part of next-generation network deployments, resulting in growth for the voice line interface. Capitalizing on this opportunity, Lantiq (News - Alert), a supplier of broadband access and home networking technologies, has revealed a new version of its DUSLIC- xT, a single package SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Circuit) providing all necessary functions to implement voice telephony in broadband customer premise equipment.
Manufacturers can use the Lantiq DUSLIC-xT single package solution for a single design for both single- and two-channel voice line systems, which enables them to optimize system design and costs by providing unmatched flexibility and performance.
Additionally, Lantiq is planning to showcase the new version of the DUSLIC-xT at the upcoming Broadband World Forum (BBWF). Measuring just 10x10 mm in pin-to-pin compatible single- and dual-channel versions, it allows system manufacturers to use a single PCB card for one or two voice circuits.
Compared to legacy solutions by its competitors, DUSLIC-xT saves users 30 percent on the bill of materials, offering systems with voice telephony with Central Office grade performance and full wideband (16 kHz/16 bit) support at optimized system cost.
Its lowest power consumption, measured in both on and off-hook conditions, allows system manufacturers to meet stringent Code of Conduct requirements while using a smaller power supply to further improve system design and cost.
Johannes Eiblmeier, head of marketing of Lantiq's Access Networks Business Unit, elaborated on this development in a statement "Delivering high quality voice telephony at a low system cost will remain a requirement for CPE vendors for many years. Driven by next generation network deployments such as PON in China, voice circuits in broadband gateways will grow more than 10 percent year-over-year from the 100 million lines we saw in 2011. Lantiq's goal is to deliver best-in-industry performance and system cost advantage to enable our customers to differentiate their offerings and be successful in the competitive broadband gateway and home networking markets.",
In related news, Patton (News - Alert) Electronics, an esteemed provider of VoIP services, has been consistently helping small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with its latest reveal that its SmartNode Product line is now Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync-certified. The SmartNode Gateway, for example, provides SMBs with the ability to connect their legacy (analog or ISDN) telephones, fax machines, overhead paging speakers, etc. to their Lync Server, allowing them to make this transition at their own pace as funds become readily available. This kind of flexibility is priceless when it boils down to the benefits users will see when being able to work with such unprecedented agility.
SMBs who are constantly on the search for the latest and greatest technology to remain competitive have found that implementing Microsoft Lync into their existing networks can bring highly sought-after advantages, but the process can be extremely challenging. Patton directly addresses this issue with its Lync-certified solutions.
