911 Enable's Emergency Gateway Now Available Worldwide

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

911 Enable, a provider of VoIP emergency management solutions, announced the worldwide availability of Emergency Gateway (News - Alert) (EGW) appliance.

The EGW has the ability to automatically detect the precise locations of IP phones on the enterprise network. It also includes a robust suite of security desk notification tools.

"Enterprises using IP-PBXs often encounter difficulties ensuring that, in times of crisis, the caller's accurate location information is provided to security personnel, as callers may be located within a large campus or at another location entirely,” said Lev Deich, director of 911 Enable, in a statement.

The problem is aggravated because of the high degree of mobility of IP phones. Callers may change location from one moment to the other, making it further difficult for emergency responders to identify the location.

The EGW is designed to address this issue. With this solution, security personnel get info where to send help in emergency situations, even if the caller is unable to speak, unaware of their precise location, or disoriented, Deich added.

When an emergency call is made, EGW routes the call to on-premises security personnel and send an alert that includes the caller's exact location and callback number. This would allow security personnel to dispatch assistance to distressed callers in a timely manner.

911 Enable is a division of Connexon Telecom. The company provides emergency solutions for IP-PBXs ideal for organizations of all sizes. It offers breakthrough location management technologies for today's leading IP-PBX vendors, including Cisco, Avaya (News - Alert), Microsoft, and more.

Companies in the U.K that deploy the EGW can also use 911 Enable's Emergency Routing Service (ERS) to deliver emergency calls and detailed caller-location information to the public emergency network's Emergency Control Centre, 911 Enable said in a press statement. With this offer, the company helps its clients to ensure that their private telephone networks comply with regulatory guidelines and avoid security risks.

In a similar development recently, eTelemetry (News - Alert), which specializes in extracting real-time business information from network activity, announced its Locate911 (News - Alert) technology is helping emergency callers in big facilities reach first responders by offering call-location technology through their commercial phone systems.

Locate911 technology when added to a commercial switchboard PBX (News - Alert) system automatically detects 911 calls in progress and alerts on-site personnel by offering all details including caller's name, room number and building information so fire and police can respond effectively.
